Marblehead Street | Kitchen renovation reveal

The kitchen is the heart of the home–just look at where people congregate during a party. We did a big renovation on the kitchen in a Marblehead Street, MA home this year, knocking out a wall between the living room, dining room, and kitchen to give the circulation a boost. This opened the floor plan and sight lines, flooding the room with natural light. You can see what this project looked like as a work in progress here.

Kitchen features

  • Custom cabinetry
  • LG Viatera countertops
  • Plenty of natural light
  • Double ovens
  • Tiled stovetop backsplash
  • Expansive countertops double as serving space for entertaining

Styling: Marlborough Street | Boston, MA

Are we the only ones who fantasize about living in a flat on historic Marlborough Street in Boston? We tasted the dream this spring when we styled this stunning city bachelor pad with to-die-for views of both city skyline and green space.

Style profile

Sophisticated, textural, and moderately masculine with a contemporary color palette of moody blues and charcoals.

That view, though.

Fun fact: the long couch pillow is made from a recycled firehose.

“Gin and sin”–it’s a bachelor pad, alright!

We added built-ins to accentuate those dreamy high ceilings. We typically style with stacks and/or groups of 3 (with books, vessels, and objects that speak to the owner’s history and interests).

Plenty of texure and layered books that reflect the homeower’s personality

Semi-sheer linen curtains keep it light and draw the eye to the full height of the view

BIG puzzle!

Dreamland.  The simple but impactful clapboard treatment (we used Strikwood) gives the bedroom personality and rustic charm.

Next steps

  • Change out the green marble & reface the fireplace – gray soapstone on the hearth? Carrara herringbone on the surround!?  Sounds like a good Fall in New England project to us!
  • Artwork above the sofa: a large scale Cap Cod waterscape photograph taken by the owner. We’re having it printed on metal and it’s going to look so great in that room.
  • Kitchen renovation?

Summer homes are made in the winter: Process

You know that saying Summer bodies are made in the winter? Well we think that the same thing goes for summer homes! You’ve got to start early or risk spending your summer days brushing sawdust from between your toes instead of sand.

Summer homes are made in the winter.

North Fork Design Co.

When our clients enlist our help designing their summer home’s interior, we dig in when the snow is falling to ensure the space is ready for a long lazy Memorial Day weekend. We’ve been working all winter on a client’s Cape Cod summer home (yes, of course we’re jealous!) with a to-die-for “Great Room” that will host everything from rainy family game nights to dreamy midsummer soirees.

“Before” photos

Talk about potential: the first time we stepped foot in this room, we swooned hard over the vaulted ceiling, exposed beams, fairytale fireplace, hardwood floors, and natural light. This is what we’re working with–lucky us!

Design elements

  • Classic Cape Cod style home
  • Incorporate nautical elements without being too “themey”
  • Light, bright, and family friendly
  • Two seating areas ideal for entertaining
  • Extra-large rug unifies the space (we’re Rug Nerds–we wrote about it here!)
