Are we the only ones who fantasize about living in a flat on historic Marlborough Street in Boston? We tasted the dream this spring when we styled this stunning city bachelor pad with to-die-for views of both city skyline and green space.
Style profile
Sophisticated, textural, and moderately masculine with a contemporary color palette of moody blues and charcoals.
Project highlights
- Full renovation of the master suite
- Styled furniture & materials in the living room, master bedroom, guest bath, and guest room

That view, though.

Fun fact: the long couch pillow is made from a recycled firehose.

“Gin and sin”–it’s a bachelor pad, alright!

Spiky plant in a concrete ball planter

Natural light for days

We calmly resisted the urge to curl up on this sumptuous rug to make sure it’s fit for napping

Pre-curtain install

We added built-ins to accentuate those dreamy high ceilings. We typically style with stacks and/or groups of 3 (with books, vessels, and objects that speak to the owner’s history and interests).

Plenty of texure and layered books that reflect the homeower’s personality

Semi-sheer linen curtains keep it light and draw the eye to the full height of the view

BIG puzzle!

Dreamland. The simple but impactful clapboard treatment (we used Strikwood) gives the bedroom personality and rustic charm.
Next steps
- Change out the green marble & reface the fireplace – gray soapstone on the hearth? Carrara herringbone on the surround!? Sounds like a good Fall in New England project to us!
- Artwork above the sofa: a large scale Cap Cod waterscape photograph taken by the owner. We’re having it printed on metal and it’s going to look so great in that room.
- Kitchen renovation?
